Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you hand make all of your own pottery?

A: Yes, everything is hand made. Either I wheel throw my work or use hand building techniques.

Q: Do you offer pottery lessons?

A: No I currently do not offer this service. However, if you are local and working on a senior project I am willing to mentor as long as you pay for your own supplies.

Q: Can I use your Kiln for my own personal use?

A: No.

Q: How long does it take to complete a work of art?

A: From first starting a piece until it is out of the glaze kiln can take anywhere from two to four weeks. After pieces are formed they must dry completely. The first firing is to 1900 F and takes about twelve hours to fire and another 24 to cool enough to unload. They are then glazed and fired again, this time to 2200 F, another twelve or thirteen hours, with at least 24 hours cooling time.

Q: How do I care for my ceramic piece?

A: All of my ceramic pieces are made of high-fired stoneware. It is dishwasher, microwave and oven safe, although washing by hand is recommended to avoid chipping. Clay is a highly conductive material, so be very cautious when removing from an oven or microwave, as it will be very hot to the touch. Avoid thermal shock – going from the refrigerator to a hot oven could cause the piece to crack. If you use it in the oven, place the bowl in there during preheat so it is gradually warmed (and don’t take it above 400 degrees).

Q: Is your pottery Food safe?

A: Yes, my pottery is completely food-safe and in accordance with Prop 65. I do not use harmful chemicals in our glazes, such as lead and cadmium. If for any reason this is not the case the item will be marked as not food safe (NFS).

Q: I have a broken piece of pottery. Can you repair it?

A: I am unable to repair your pottery. Repairing pottery is a very different skill set outside of what I do. I found and would recommend Creative Clay Restoration and Hamlin Restoration Studio.  There is also a variety of information online in general.

Q: Do you have a store that I can visit?

A: I do not have a shop in which customers can visit. However, I do allow studio visits where you can see what products I have available on hand.

Q: What do you charge for shipping?

A: Due to the fragile nature of ceramic dishes, double boxing is required. We charge a flat rate of $10.00 per order and an additional $1.00 Per item. If the cost of shipping turns out to be less than what you paid for I will issue a refund on the difference.

Q: Is that really the price of your work? Are you sure you can't go any lower?

A: Yes these are my prices. No I will not adjust my price. If you do not like the price you are not required to purchase my work. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. I do however have seasonal pottery sales.
